Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association was founded on May 7, 1956.

Membership in the association is optional and open to any full-time current employee of the Department.

Eligible employees may join the Association at any time of the year with no waiting period, unless the Board of Director's Association requires evidence of insurability.

Employees of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who have been a member of the Association for a period of 10 years may retain their membership upon termination with the Department.

The initial cost to join the Association is $32.00.

Upon the death of a member, a check is provided within a matter of days directly to the deceased member's beneficiary. The amount of each death benefit paid is calculated as $15 times the number of current members in the Association.

Cash payment of death benefits directly to the beneficiary helps address immediate expenses as the deceased's bank and savings accounts are generally frozen by the government for some time immediately following his/her death.

Following the death of a member, the Association mails an assessment to each member asking them to make a payment of $16. The Association keeps adequate funds on hand at all times to be able to make two death benefit payments.

Currently, there are about 360 members in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association.

During the past 55 years, the Association has had 119 death assessments – an average of 2.2 per year.

Current full-time employees may join by sending a completed Membership Application Form media download(Word 54 KB) and the $32 initial payment to David Heater at:

Make checks and money orders payable to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association.

All current full-time employees of the Department are invited to join the Association. It is inexpensive insurance and provides a convenient way for employees to help out the beneficiary of a buddy who has passed on.
