Regional Park Funding
April 2001
I. Discussion: The Seventy-sixth session of the Texas Legislature authorized the creation of a regional park grant program to be funded through the Texas Recreation and Parks Account. The program is designed to support multi-jurisdictional projects of regional significance in Texas’ metropolitan areas. Projects proposing either intensive use recreation or regional conservation and recreation are eligible to request matching funds. This is the second review of regional grants under the pilot program concept.
Funds available include $1,000,000 from Fiscal Year 2001 TRPA revenue and $2,163,599 in Fiscal Year 2001 federal Land and Water Conservation Funds.
This review includes applications from 12 sponsors, requesting $12,926,045 in matching funds for all applications submitted by January 31, 2001. The projects have been ranked in descending order of priority. Exhibit A contains the priority listing with funds requested by the sponsors and funds recommended by staff. Exhibit B contains a discussion of individual, eligible project proposals.
II. Recommendation: Staff recommends the Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:
"Funding for projects listed in Exhibit A in the amount of $3,163,599.00 is approved, as described for individual projects in Exhibit B."
