I.       Executive Summary:  Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is in negotiations for the acquisition of up to 350 acres of land as an addition to the Gene Howe Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

II.            Discussion:  TPWD staff is currently in negotiations with the General Land Office for the acquisition of up to 350 acres of school fund land as an addition to the Gene Howe WMA.  The tract would offer additional recreation opportunities and preserve the land from potential fragmentation and or agricultural use.

III.     Recommendation:  The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:

“The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission authorizes the Executive Director to take all necessary steps to acquire approximately 350 acres in Hemphill County for addition to The Gene Howe Wildlife Management Area.”
