- Eligibility for hire: Males ages 18-25 are required to register with the Selective Service System and present proof of either registration or exemption.
- Must provide legal proof of authorization to work in the United States.
Notice to Applicants:
You must be at least 16 years of age at time of employment. Texas state law requires that all males between the ages of 18-25 be registered with the selective service system in order to be hired by a state agency. To be hired, you must present proof of:- registration with the selective service system; or
- exemption from registration with the selective service system.
The following documents may be accepted as proof of registration or proof of exemption from registration with the selective service system:
- a copy of the registration acknowledgement card from the selective service system;
- a printout of the confirmation screen from the selective service system;
- a copy of the non-immigrant visa; or
- a copy of the status information letter issued by the selective service system to individuals who are not required to register.
If you are not registered, you can register online at www.sss.gov. The registration requirement does not apply to a person employed by a state agency before September 1, 1999, as long as the person's employment by the state is continuous. The following persons are exempt from the requirement to register:
- Females
- Lawfully admitted non-immigrant aliens (such as those men on visitor or student visas and members of the diplomatic or trade missions and their families) because they are residing in this country temporarily. Members of the Arms Forces on full-time duty, including cadets and midshipmen at the United States service academies.
