Abilene State Park will be hosting its 2nd annual celebration of Celtic Heritage in Texas on National Tartan Day April, 6th, 2013. Entertainment will include Celtic musicians, dancers, and of course Pipers. Stories will be shared on how the Irish and Scottish influenced our state’s history. Irish folklore stories will also be shared for the young at heart. Festivities will start with a Texan Tartan Walk at 11am and continue with demonstrations starting at noon and lasting till 2 pm. There is no fee for the event but entrance fees apply ($5.00 per person 13 and older, 12 and under free, no charge for park pass holder). Anyone that dresses for the occasion and wears a kilt or plaid outer garment will receive $2.00 off entrance fees. Refreshments will be available for purchase from the Friends of Abilene State Park. Lawn Chairs or blankets are recommended for seating and we encourage everyone to come and enjoy all that the park has to offer throughout the day. Also the Friends of Abilene state park will be hosting a 5K race at 9am the same morning. Please call the park for more details.
