Come celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Civilian Conservation Corps

  • Friday, April 5 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. - Mixer at the Amphitheater. If weather is bad, the event will take place in Coronado Lodge.
  • Saturday, April 6 starting at 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - Registration, pick up name tags and dinner tickets. CCCers sign up for recording of their Oral History Interviews.
    Attendees – Place your CCC memorabilia in the ‘Show and Tell’ area inside the Mack Dick Pavilion.
    Browse educational displays and try your hand at the various woodworking and stone working activity booths.
    10:30 a.m. Texas Conservation Corps Demonstration – Northeast edge of Mack Dick Pavilion parking lot
    Lunch on your own – try the Trading Post, an easy walk from the event
    2:30 p.m. Texas Conservation Corps Demonstration – Northeast edge of Mack Dick Pavilion parking lot
    4:30 p.m. Group Photos – Meet at west patio of Mack Dick Pavilion
    5:00 p.m. BBQ Dinner in the large tent (Mack Dick Pavilion parking lot.) Presentations to follow, including ‘Swearing In’ ceremony for Texas Conservation Corps (part of AmeriCorps network from around the country.) A limited number of dinner tickets are available, please RSVP to confirm a dinner. 
  • Sunday, April 7 - Take time to tour the park in your car, on a bike or on foot. You can do this individually on your own schedule, or try one of these organized tours:
    9:00 a.m. - Hike portion of the park’s CCC Trail. Meet at Coronado Lodge for a 3/4-mile hike
    on the Palo Duro Canyon CCC trail, led by Palo Duro Canyon State Park staff. Hike will be about one hour long; some areas are fairly strenuous.
    11:00 a.m. Horseback rides in the park. Rides last one hour. Call the Old West Stables at (806) 488-2180 to reserve a spot. Located across from the Trading Post. Price is $35 per hour. One rider per horse; riders must be at least 6 years old and weigh less than 250 pounds. Rides start hourly. Call for available times.
