Women living on the Texas frontier were often isolated and lonely. Gathering together for conversation and to work on sewing projects helped to combat the loneliness and create bonds among them. The ladies of Barrington Farm will be hosting "A Gathering of Women" demonstrating sewing, crocheting, weaving, quilting, and spinning. Women used these skills to help clothe their families and entertain themselves in the 1850's. Historic accounts of women socializing frequently mention working on individual sewing projects during a gathering. Come keep us company as we work on our projects and learn some new skills while you visit!
“A Gathering of Women” will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 4th & 5th, from 10:00 AM until 4:30 PM at Barrington Living History Farm, home of Dr. Anson Jones, last president of the Republic of Texas.
