Spend a day learning cool stuff about geology and archeology

Program Schedule
Geology Rocks at 10:00-Noon- $3 per person, hike with us as we learn about the special geology and cool rock formations.   Meet at the Park Headquarters with your vehicle. The park ranger will lead you to the program site parking area.  Wear closed-toed shoes with your smile.   From 2:00 to 5:00PM join John Boland at the amphitheater as he presents his collection of arrowheads that date back to the Paleo-Indian and Archaic periods. See hundreds of dart points, knives, and scrapers. Free. From 5:30 to 6:30PM join Chuck Hixson at the amphitheater for an interactive demonstration of artifacts such as the atlatl, rabbit stick (Native American boomerang), and fire drill. Free. From 7:00-8:00PM join Chuck Hixson for a PowerPoint presentation about his adventures and the history of native people who lived in the Hill Country.  His presentation is titled “The Prehistoric Stone Circles of Lake Buchanan, an Archaeological Mystery in Our Own Backyard”.   Dozens of stone circles built over a thousand years ago by Native Americans have been recorded on the lakebed during the present draught. These unusual features were first discovered 50 years ago during an earlier draught, and archeologists are still debating their meaning. Free.A park ranger will join you during the presentations to inform the audience about what to do when you find an artifact in a state park. Free.
