At high noon women on horseback will line up in the arena for a panoramic photo. The previous three years we have had almost 70 and this year we want a hundred. <p>Be a part of a National Movement to get people into State Parks!&nbsp; Join Government Canyon State Natural Area Rangers and Volunteers on either a hike up an historic supply route to a “buena vista” or on a shorter hike across a major fault zone and up into the Balcones Escarpment.&nbsp; Either way, you will be able to boast being one of the First Visitors to hike at Government Canyon in 2012.&nbsp; This is an event you don’t want to miss! Hike #1 meets at the Visitor Center by the rainwater harvesting tower at 10:00 AM for the hike up an historic supply route to a “buena vista.” Round trip length of Hike #1 is approximately 7 miles. Hike #2 meets at the Visitors Center near the rainwater harvesting tower at 1:00 PM for the hike across a major fault zone and up into the Balcones Escarpment. Round trip length of Hike #2 is approximately 2 miles. Both hikes are open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by an adult; group size limited to the first 12 people; no pets please; Natural Area entrance fees apply. A perfect opportunity to photograph some of North  America’s oldest known rock art. This is a seven mile hike and approximate time is eight hours. Due to rough terrain this hike is rated as extremely strenuous. Hikers should be experienced. No pets and children under the age of 12 allowed. Cash, check or money order only-no credit cards.</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Lake Corpus Christi State Park will be holding their 20<sup>th</sup> Annual Kid Fish Derby on January 28, 2012.  This event is free for children ages 5-12 with hourly fishing sessions starting at 9 am.  This event provides an opportunity for children to fish in a controlled setting that will almost guarantee success.  Each child is provided with bait, tackle, a fishing rod and reel which are theirs to keep after the event.  Food and drinks will also be provided for participants, entrance fees are waived.</p>]]></content:encoded>

This festival will feature rides in Big Bend National Park (Old Ore Road), the Lajitas Resort Trail System as well as various rides in Big Bend Ranch  State Park. The 3 day event will feature a different riding area each day, with options for alternate rides in other areas. The main venue and staging area for the event will be the Lajitas Resort and riders will either ride or drive to the Trail Head for the start of each ride. Each day will offer opportunities for rides of different lengths and difficulty and will include rides appropriate for Families/Kids. The Main Event for the Festival will be the route named as an IMBA Epic in Big Bend Ranch State Park and this ride will be held on Saturday, 2/18/2012.</p>]]></content:encoded>
