If you are new to birding, wanting to get started in birding, or even if you’re a lifelong birder you will want to join us for the First Day Hike-Bird Buster 100.  Every year our park Natural Resource Specialist spends the first day birding in an attempt to find over 100 species to start off another great year of birding. Will he do it again this year, and can he do it all at one park? The challenge will officially start at 6:00am and end at 6:00pm and will continually move throughout the park resting only in birding hot spot areas. You can join for the entire time or just drop in for as long as you would like anytime during the day.

If you’re not an early riser, that’s ok. Check in at the visitor’s center between 8:00am and 5:00pm to find out his location at any given time. You don’t even have to be a birdwatcher, you can  join in just to go for a nice long walk and learn a lot about nature during this half day adventure. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes and pack your lunch.

If you don't have binoculars for this adventure that ok too. Just bring a valid driver’s licenses and an extra $3 and you can rent some from the park for the day.

Follow us on the Estero Llano Grande State Park's Facebook page to keep up on progress all day long.

Regular park entry fees apply.
