First Day Hikes at Fort Parker State Park

Fort Parker State Park will offer a guided hike on New Year’s Day from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Participants will meet at the Picnic Area.  The hike will be part of the nationwide First Day Hikes program.  First Day Hikes brings awareness of healthy lifestyle alternatives that include state parks, promoted by the National Association of State Park Directors.  The topics of the guided hike will include local flora, information on the Springfield Cemetery, viewing the Fort Parker dam, and other points of interest along the trail.  The event is open to anyone with a valid state park entrance permit, which will be available at the Park Headquarters.  Please dress for the weather and wear footwear suitable for a two-mile hike.  The event will be held at Fort Parker State Park, 194 Park Road 28, Mexia, TX 76667.  RSVP by calling Fort Parker State Park 254-562-5751.
