Be a part of a National Movement to get people into State Parks!  Join Government Canyon State Natural Area Rangers and Volunteers on either a hike, bike ride, or run on the first day of the year.  No matter which activity you choose, you will be able to boast being one of the First Visitors to enjoy the trails of Government Canyon in 2013.  This is an event you don’t want to miss!  Below are the available activities for 2013:

 

  • 8:00AM-Noon   Overlook Hike 7 miles  Meet at Visitor Center
  • 8:30AM-Noon   Birding Hike    2 miles   Meet at Visitor Center
  • 9:00AM-Noon   Pro Hab Run  10-12 miles  Meet at Visitor Center
  • 9:00AM-11:00AM  Bluff Spurs Hike   3 miles  Meet at Visitor Center
  • 9:00AM-2:00PM    Meet-Up Hike   8 to12 miles    Meet in Parking Lot A
  • 10:00AM-1:30PM  Far Reaches Hike    6 miles   Meet in Parking Lot C
  • 11:00AM-3:00PM  Wild Cat Hike           7 miles   Meet at Visitor Center
  • 1:00PM-1:30PM    Beginner Run           1 mile     Meet in Parking Lot C
  • 4:00PM-5:30PM    Intro Mountain Bike   4.7 miles   Meet in Parking Lot C
  • 4:30PM-7:00PM    Sunset Hike              3.5 miles   Meet at Visitor Center

    All “First Day Hike” activities are open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by an adult; each hike and run group size limited to the first 12 people; bike group limited to first 6 people; no pets please; Natural Area entrance fees apply. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes for hiking over rough terrain; bring two liters of water and a snack. Please RSVP to nic.maloukis@tpwd.state.tx.us
