Meet our Park Naturalists and Park Hosts on the Estero Llano Grande State Park deck for a morning Bird Walk. Park Host Huck Hutchens will lead our Saturday Bird Walks, Rick and May Snider will host our Sunday Bird Walks, and Dave and Mary Elder will lead on Wednesdays. We often see over thirty species from the Deck before the actual 8:30am starting time, and often over seventy by the end of the Walk. Many of the birds we may see (eg Green Jays, Plain Chachalacas, Least Grebes, Great Kiskadees, Tropical and Couch’s Kingbirds, Buff-bellied Hummingbirds and more) are found nowhere else in the US except South Texas!
When: Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Where to meet: On the Deck just outside the Park Store.
What are we doing: Birding and walking.
Things to bring: Binoculars, water, sun screen, shoes suitable for walking, a camera, a scope, and wear weather appropriate clothing. There will be a few pairs of binoculars available for a $3 rental fee, but it is best to bring your own.
Walks may be cancelled or postponed in event of rain.
There is no fee for attending this program except that park entrance is required. Entrance fees are $5 per person over the age of 13, children 12 and under are free, or free with a current Texas State Park Pass. Appropriate for all ages and all skills of birders.
