In Celebration of National Trails Day, Franklin Mountains State Parks invites you to join us on a beautiful hike along the Lower Sunset Trail. Great for beginner/intermediate hikers!

A regular $5.00 entrance fee and a $3.00 activity fee apply = total of $8.00; however, Texas State Parks Pass holders only pay $3.00 since all TSPP holders receive free entrance in to all Texas State Parks.
Lower Sunset Trail hike
•Start Time: 8:30 a.m.
•Length: 2.5 miles/1.5 to 2 hours
•*Difficulty Level: Steep decent at the beginning, becoming level for a good distance of about a mile down an old jeep road; then take the lower sunset trail to the left, with short steep ascents, and fabulous views along the edges of the arroyos and off to the west. Finish with a short, steep climb back to Site 39.
Bring: Water, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, hiking stick, camera, binoculars, a map and dogs are welcome on leashes!
Driving Directions to Tom Mays Unit: From Westside from I-10, take exit #6 & travel east towards Mountains for 3.8 mi., pass park entrance on left, make u-turn, entrance on right. From Eastside on Hwy 54, exit Transmountain Rd, travel west 7 miles over/thru the mountains, Park entrance on the right.
