Shorebird Walk

Join a park ranger on a shorebird walk. This walk is over fairly even terrain. We will look for some of our resident birds as well as the birds that migrate through the coast in spring.

Attendees Appropriate for all ages and all skills of birders. We have a few pairs of binoculars available for use during the program, although it is best to bring your own.

Watch for birds, and learn the behavior, calls, or field marks used to identify them.  Join us for this easy bird walk, where we search for the birds that move through Goose Island in the spring.  Expect to see birds and maybe even learn a few new things.

When: 8:00 a.m.

Parking:  There is a small parking area across the bridge from the boat ramp.  If that parking lot is full, participants may park at the parking lot by the Recreation Hall & Day Use area and walk to the starting place.

Where to meet:  Meet at the parking area across the bridge from the boat ramp.  

What are we doing:  Bird watching and walking.

Things to bring:  Binoculars, water, sun screen, bug spray, shoes suitable for walking, a camera, and dress in weather appropriate clothing. 

Walks may be canceled or postponed in event of rain.


There is no fee for attending this program although park entrance  is required.  Entrance fees are $5 per person over the age of 13, children 12 and under are free, or free with a current Texas State Park Pass.  Appropriate for all ages and all skills of birders.  We do have a few pairs of binoculars available for use during the program.
