A Wildlife Practices and Activities Workshop will be held at the S.P.J.S.T Education and Nature Center at Cooper Farm (Fayette County) on Friday, April 5th, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The workshop is designed for landowners interested in using wildlife management as a qualifying agricultural practice for property tax purposes. Topics covered will include rules for qualifying for wildlife tax valuation, managing for prairie and grassland birds, the importance of grazing, managing for bats and native pollinators, and control of feral hogs. Additionally, the Fayette County Appraisal District will be present to explain what appraisers are looking for during site visits.
The workshop fee is $12 with refreshments and a catered lunch provided. To register, call the Fayette County Appraisal District at 979-968-8383. Reservations are requested before April 3rd.
The SPJST Education and Nature Center at Cooper Farm is located at 2001 Waldeck Road, Ledbetter, Texas 78946. From La Grange travel north on Highway 77 for 2.6 miles to FM 2145. Go right (east) on FM 2145 for 10.2 miles into Waldeck. Turn left (north) on FM 1291 and turn right on CR 112/ Waldeck Road. Go east on Waldeck Road for 2.6 miles to find SPJST Education and Nature Center at Cooper Farm on the left.
