Splish Splash

Rain drops from a storm or sweat from the sun’s heat could be dripping off your cheeks right now. But no matter what makes those dripping drops, the weather causing them got its start in the troposphere (tro-pos-fear).

All Texas weather – actually, all Earth’s weather - gets started in the troposphere, one of the five layers between us and outer space.

Of the five layers, the troposphere is closest to us. At its thinnest, near the north and south poles, the troposphere measures about 5 miles. At its thickest, near the equator, it measures about 11 miles. It takes up more than half the earth’s atmosphere.

Puddle

Hey! Those dripping drops will soon make a puddle!
