The first thing
Submitted by Jay Six
My family tent camped for years at Texas State Parks. We slept on air mattresses that didn't hold air, collected drops of rain where one of our kids just had to touch the roof of the tent, and tended to countless bumps, scrapes, and "skeeter" bites.
We've hiked, walked, paddled, and explored all over this great state. We made s'mores over a campfire, and had crackers for dinner when the rain wouldn't let us cook. We sweated in the heat and shivered in the cold. We marveled at the sunrises and sunsets, and listened to the birds sing, the coyotes yip, and frogs croak. AND WE LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
The kids are grown and gone, and we have a travel trailer now. So doesn't it just make sense that the first thing we did when we bought our travel trailer was to make sure others could know how we feel about Texas State Parks? And when I say first thing, I mean first thing.... like on the first day: "RV THERE YET?"
Support our state parks. Buy an annual park pass, a fishing or hunting license, or a Texas State Parks specialty license plate. Take a kid camping. Just GO!
