Visitor Information

The Jasper State Fish Hatchery is located approximately ten miles north of Jasper off Texas Highway 63. It is normally open for visitors from 8 am to 5 pm weekdays. The hatchery raises five species of fish for stocking in Texas waters. Hatchery staff and the regional lake management crew maintain a stocked fishing canal which is open to organized children's groups from December 15 to June 15 for catch-and-release events. The fishing canal can be reserved by calling the hatchery office during work hours.

About the Facility

The Jasper Fish Hatchery occupies 227 acres of land purchased by the state of Texas in 1930. It has 63 ponds covering approximately 65 surface acres. The original 33 ponds and three log buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and were completed in 1932. Additional construction was completed in 1947. Water for the hatchery is supplied by gravity flow from Indian Creek via a 21-inch pipeline. A new incubation building built in 1993 houses incubation equipment, round tanks, troughs, and raceways used in the culture of game fish species.
