Public Access Facilities
Return to Lake Abilene fishing page
Access to the lake is provided through Abilene State Park, which may be closed for wildlife management activities on occasion. Check the park web page for closure notices and dates.
Public shore fishing access is good. Boat ramps are largely unusable when the lake falls about 7 feet below spillway level. A 4-wheel-drive vehicle is necessary to launch boats under low water conditions. Campsites are available on the main campus of Abilene State Park across FM 89.
