Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area - Facilities
Informational Displays: The historical marker at the top of the hill outlines the building of the Old Tunnel. The Fredericksburg Historical Society provided the marker to the area. A kiosk located at the upper viewing provides information about the bats at this location, bats in general, and a brief description on the policies and procedures of the Wildlife Management Area. An additional kiosk, located at the lower viewing area, provides a brief history of the tunnel, as well as additional information on Mexican Free-tailed bats and other bats of the world.
Picnic and Restroom Facilities: Three picnic tables sites (uncovered) are available for public use at the Old Tunnel WMA. No running water is available at the area, and although a two-stall, self-composting restroom facility is located on site, facilities are only open during the months of May-October, when TPWD employees are present.
Handicapped-Accessibility: Two public bat-viewing areas are accessible by handicapped visitors at the Old Tunnel WMA. All restroom facilities and picnic areas are handicapped accessible.
