Youth Hunts by Annual Public Hunting Permit

youth and adults preparing to hunt

The Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit is a $48 permit, valid from September 1 through August 31 of the following year. The APH Permit allows an adult access to designated public hunting lands in this booklet and in the Public Dove Hunting Areas and Other Small Games Leases Supplement. Hunting is allowed for small game, turkey, white-tailed deer, exotics, predators, furbearers, and fishing without having to pay daily permit fees and in most instances, without having to be selected in a drawing.

Having purchased the appropriate Texas hunting licenses and stamps, holders of an APH Permit may take youth under age 17 hunting free of charge on these public hunting lands, thereby making them aware of the need for proper management of wildlife resources and introducing them to the ethics of sport hunting.

The Annual Public Hunting Permit program offers two types of youth hunting - Youth Only and Youth/Adult. During the hunts listed as Youth Only, only the youth are authorized to hunt. During the hunts listed as Youth/Adult, the supervising adults as well as the youths will be allowed to hunt. Each group must contain a youth under 17 years of age to participate.

The following is a list of the types of youth hunting offered:

APH Permits are available at TPWD offices and all license vendors (a place which sells hunting and fishing licenses), or by calling 1-800-TX-LIC-4U (menu choice 1 for license sales) and paying by Visa, Discover or MasterCard). If the permit is purchased at a TPWD office, the map booklet and supplement will be provided immediately at the time of purchase; otherwise, the publications will be mailed to the purchaser within two weeks of purchase.
