Texas Master Naturalist: Downloads

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has developed a database program that makes recordkeeping easier for the Master Naturalist chapters. This program was developed at the behest of local chapters, and contains the items they requested. The program is fully customizable - you choose the names of classes and volunteer events, which member interests to track, the amount of class hours required each year, etc. Generate reports, labels, and emails at the click of a button. You do not need to have any other software installed on your computer.

Installation Instructions

The program is optimized to run with the display set at 1024 X 768 using small/normal system fonts. It displays at higher resolution with no problem. Using 800 X 600 will prevent seeing the whole screen at once, but you can use scroll bars to get to the necessary areas if you choose this setting.

  • To Install the Update:
    1. When the update program starts, click the Unzip button. The files will be copied to the c:\program files\master naturalist\ directory. If you installed the program to another directory, you will need to change the install directory before clicking the Unzip button. If it asks whether it should overwrite current files, tell it yes.
    2. If you are updating from version 1.65 or later, the database file will be automatically upgraded to the new version the first time the program is run. Depending on the speed of your computer, current database version, and the number of records you have, this could take some time, but it typically under 10 minutes. No data is lost in this process.
  • To Install the Full version:
    1. This creates a folder containing all the necessary files to install the program. After the folder is created, go to it and run the Setup.exe file. This will create the c:\program files\master naturalist\ directory, place the program and database there, and create a startup folder and icon. If you have a copy of the program installed, it will be overwritten and ALL data will be lost. If you want a complete reinstall, but do not wish to lose your data, either temporarily rename or move the master naturalist.mdb file.
    2. Computers running WinXP and/or Office XP should be ready to go at this time. If you are running Win9x or WinNT, you may need to upgrade the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) and/or Microsoft Jet database engine. To get the latest version of these, go to the Microsoft website at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads.
