Courses and Workshops
Are you saddened when you see a bulldozer clearing a wooded area in preparation for more urban development? Do you wish you could help offset this loss of wildlife habitat but don't know how? If so, then Texas Wildscapes courses are for you. Wildlife habitat in urban areas is often known as "real estate." Fields and woods supporting native plants and their associated wildlife are being converted to parking lots, malls and housing developments. However, by attending Texas Wildscapes courses, you can learn how to replace some of the habitat which has been lost.
Bluebonnets such as these at the Barton Warnock Education Center assist in attracting wildlife.
To support the Texas Wildscapes Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program, biologists with the Urban Wildlife Diversity Program in many areas of Texas are teaching "wildscaping" courses which offer detailed instruction about how to provide food, water and shelter for wildlife on your property. These courses are being offered in cooperation with local Parks and Recreation Departments, local Continuing Education systems and nurseries.
Preserving native Texas plants provides peaceful scenery and wildlife habitat.
The Texas Wildscapes Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program was originally intended to help restore wildlife habitat on small parcels of land, but property size does not matter. Because of the benefits of wildlife habitat, converting larger tracts of land into Wildscapes seems to be a growing trend.
Wildscaping Workshops are generally held about once or twice a year, depending on demand. The fee for the workshop varies depending on location, materials provided, and speaker fees.
