Make a Clay-Dough Critter

Have your favorite adult help you make this fun clay dough and create your favorite critter, or make one up!

Here are two recipes:

Clay Dough (uses drink mix for color)

Mix together:

3 cups of flour
3 packages of unsweetened powdered drink mix
½ cup of salt

Stir in:

3 tablespoons cooking oil
2 cups water

Cook on medium heat until dough thickens and pulls away from pan. Turn the ball of dough over and cook until it feels like pretty solid. Remove from pan and kneaduntil it is a consistent doughy mass. (Careful, it's very hot!!!) Store in plastic bags or air-tight containers.

Clay Dough (uses cream of tartar)

Mix in a sauce pan:

1 cup flour
½ cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar (do not omit)

Add:
1 cup water and
1 tablespoon cooking oil
Food Coloring

Cook, stirring for a minimum of 3 minutes (very important!) or until mixture pulls away from the pan. (Note: Better to overcook…if it is too wet or gooey, the dough will not ‘set’.) Begin to knead immediately (CAUTION!!! mixture is HOT).

Store in air-tight containers. Maybe be refrigerated (but not necessary).
