Heavyweight Champs

Adult female great white sharks are among the largest predators in the sea. Usually bigger than the males, they can get to be more than 15 feet long and can weigh more than 1500 pounds.

Challenge:

  1. Measure a distance of 15 feet. Hold hands and stretch out the length of the great white shark.
  2. Add up all the weight in your group and compare the group's weight to the great white shark.

How Do You Compare?

  1. How many times heavier is the female great white shark than you?
  2. How do these adaptations help the great white shark as a predator?
  3. How does a shark's coloring help it as a predator? (Hint: imagine you are in the ocean looking up toward the shark from below or looking down from above)
