Black-eyed Susan
Rudbeckia hirta

These bright yellow flowers have a chocolate brown to black center. They bloom from May through September, in fields, along roadsides, and open woods.

This flower is related to coneflowers (coneflowers, Mexican hats), but the tube or cone stem above the petals is shorter in the Black-eyed and Brown-eyed Susan than other coneflowers. Their petals oftern droop at the ends. Their leaves have jagged edges.
