Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Who should I contact if I see a violation, the sheriff's department, the local game warden, or Operation Game Thief?

While violations may be reported to the sheriff's department or the local game warden, Operation Game Thief, Texas' wildlife crimestoppers program, is set up specifically to take those calls twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. You may contact the Operation Game Thief dispatcher at 1-800-792-GAME (4263). You may be eligible for up to $1,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of poachers you report. The more information you can give (vehicle description, vehicle license number, description of suspects, etc.), the greater the chance the violators will be caught. But, the most important thing to remember is to call immediately upon witnessing the violation.
