On occasion, I have had deer that have died as a result of hanging up in my barbed wire fence. Is there a way to alleviate this problem?Many fence builders will hang the bottom wire for barbed wire fence as high as possible, but still preventing young calves from escape. Many deer will take the lower route of crawling under the fence rather than jumping when not pressured. Fence builders often place the top wire of a barbed wire fence considerably higher from the next wire down to allow deer more clearance for their feet and legs. The closer the top two wires are on the fence increases the likelihood of a deer's feet/legs hanging as they are jumping over. Larger antlered bucks often have trouble getting their rack under the bottom wire and, consequently, jump over fences.
