What is the Wildscapes program?

The Wildscapes Program is offered through Texas Parks and Wildlife, and is designed to help Texans establish and maintain habitat for wildlife in their own backyards, school yards, and corporate parks. We encourage the use of native plants, as well as the provision of the three basic components of wildlife habitat: food, water, and shelter. The book Texas Wildscapes: Gardening for Wildlife (Damude and Bender 1999), provides information of gardening for native wildlife appropriate to urban and suburban areas, step-by-step design tips, and substantial plant list that gives plant regions, sun/soil/water requirements, and ornamental and wildlife value. Texans may also certify their habitat with Texas Parks and Wildlife as an official Texas Wildscape. For more information, please visit Texas Wildscapes.
