Texas Buffalo Soldiers
Operation Orders and Schedule
General Orders 001
The schedule of operations for the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Regiment is attached for your review. These orders include the entire Department of Texas Buffalo Soldiers; Cavalry, Infantry, Seminole-Negro Indian Scouts; and other units in Texas, Vaqueros, American Indians, Civilian Volunteers; and families of military personnel and civilians. This order includes special assignments for the frontier women who have braved the elements for their country and their families.
Civilian volunteers have their choice of regiments, and, therefore, can to a great degree choose their assignments. The same rule applies to civilian volunteers, in regard to enlistment; - "above the age of eighteen, effective, able bodied, sober, of good character and habits may be enlisted" No person who is under the age of twenty-one years is to be enlisted without the written consent of his or her parent or guardian.
"Riding the Trail" and "On Campaign" really means going to privation; to danger in several shapes; to a particular type of self denial; to a kind of way of life that is at the mercy of the conditions of the environment. Therefore, it behooves the civilian volunteer to weigh the matter well in his (her) mind that he (she) may not regret their step, nor ever be tempted to grumble at their duty, much less desert. One who flinches from duty, or complains at privations, is not fit for the way of life while "On Campaign" or "Riding the Trail" with the Texas Buffalo Soldiers.
Commanding Officers, N C O's, Troopers and civilians on detached duties should contact Department of Texas, Austin Headquarters, SGT. Luis Padilla, regarding operational assignments. Some assignments are designated as Max Effort and require a wide range of duties to be performed to complete the assignment. Available troopers and personnel are instructed to report for assignment. Commanding Officers of the troops requesting permission for Max Effort operational assignment will be forwarded special requests for detached service duty; General Orders; Operational Orders; Special Orders; Bulletins; in relation to the assignment.
The Commanding Officer of the Post (Park), or the, Commanding Officer of the regiment (Region), or their designee grants and authorizes troops (personnel) under their command permission to participate in operational program assignments. General Orders; Operational Orders; Special Orders; Bulletins; and special requests may be prohibited at the discretion of the officer in command.
