Ask: Who's in Charge?
Public Land: Federal, state or county land managers
Private Land: Private landowners or managers
Ask: Is Permission Needed?
Public Land: Generally open, permits may be required. Camping and other access fees may be charged
Private Land: Verbal or written permission, hunting lease agreement. Day, season or yearly lease fees may be charged
Ask: Are there any Restrictions on this Land?
Public Land: Federal and state hunting laws and local ordinances
Private Land: Federal and state hunting laws and landowner's restrictions
Ask: What are my Responsibilities?
Public Land:
- Follow rules of safety, and be responsible when camping
- Clean up after yourself and others
- Never shoot in camp or in crowded areas
- Respect the land, hunters and other recreationists
Private Land:
- Let the landowner know when you are coming and going and where
- Don't shoot around buildings, livestock or equipment
- Clean up after yourself and others
- Leave gates as you found them, unless told otherwise
- Fix broken items or let landowner know
