Taking a Core Sample (Real Media)
TPWD Coastal Education Coordinator, Chris Conner
A core sample is a sample of soil, sand or rock pulled out of the ground in a way that keeps it in its original layers.
A tube is used to get a core sample.
Ron Smith is pushing into the sand.
twists down,
and pulls the sample out, holding the bottom of the tube to keep the sand layers from falling out.
Ron lets the sample gently slip out of the tube.
Ron breaks open the column of sand to examine its content.
Our students try sampling.
Looking for life by filtering sand and water through a screen
Examing what they found
