TPW Commission meets May 24-25
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will meet in Austin to consider a full agenda on May 24-25. The commission is scheduled to take action on the pheasant proclamation. The proposal on the table is to increase the daily bag limit to three birds during the 30-day season in the Texas Panhandle. The Commission will also take action on the public lands proclamation which lays out the public hunting opportunities on wildlife management areas and state parks for the coming season. Several briefing items are also on the agenda, including an update on the World Birding Center, the inland paddling trails program, and the 2006 ShareLunker program which has had one of the most successful years since the inception of the program. Commissioners will also be updated on Operation Pescador, the effect of the Panhandle wildfires on the wildlife resources, how wind energy development in Texas may affect wildlife, and how proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities may affect fisheries. The commission also is set to take action on a number of land issues, including the purchase of a 40-acre inholding tract in Big Bend Ranch State Park.
