Balmorhea State Park

Video Presentation of Balmorhea State Park

In this video, amidst an arid landscape of desert mountains and dust devils, appears the West Texas oasis of Balmorhea. Clear water flows through irrigation canals and bubbles from springs beneath what is one of the largest spring-fed swimming pools anywhere. Children dive and play in the water, and scuba divers share the depths with schools of fish in this 77,000-square-foot pool built by the Civilian Conservation Corp during the 1930s. Endangered fish and migrating birds are seen at the desert wetland, farmers nearby irrigate their crops, and families relax in the cool water of Balmorhea State Park.
