Caption/Information: Spectators watch as the Texas Clipper goes under in a controlled sinking near South Padre Island, Texas, Saturday, November 17, 2007 - creating a new artificial reef for marine life. Launched during WWII as the USS Queens, the 473-foot vessel saw duty as a troop transport and attack ship. After the war it was converted to a luxury passenger liner and most recently (1965-1996)served as a maritime training vessel for Texas A&M University.
