ATHENS—A one-day watershed steward workshop will be followed by an evening meeting of the Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation in Athens October 21.

The Texas Watershed Steward program is a one-day training event sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) in coordination with the Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation (TBCF). It is designed to help watershed residents improve and protect their water resources by getting involved in local watershed protection and management activities.

The training program will be held in Athens on Thursday, October 21, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hart-Morris Conservation Center at 5301 CR 4812 (on the grounds of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center). Pre-registration is now open and required for participation. For more information and to register, visit the Texas Watershed Steward website at http://tws.tamu.edu or contact Jennifer Peterson, (979) 862-8072, jlpeterson@ag.tamu.edu.

All program participants will receive a free day of education and training, a free copy of the Texas Watershed Steward Curriculum Handbook, free prizes and gifts, and a certificate of completion. In addition, the program will provide a total of 7 Continuing Education Units (Soil and Water Management) for Certified Crop Advisors, 7 SBEC Continuing Professional Education credits for certified teachers, 7 certificate maintenance credits for Certified Planners, and 3 Continuing Education Units (General) for TDA Pesticide License holders.

Following the workshop at the same location and continuing from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is a separate but related event, the annual meeting of the Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation. The meeting will include dinner and a silent auction. For more information visit the TBCF website, www.trinitybasin.org, or contact Jody Carton, (903) 670-2260, jcarton@trinitybasin.org.
