Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Workshop Celebrates 20 Years
AUSTIN— For the past 20 years, the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Workshop has offered women, 18 and older, a chance to learn or sharpen outdoors skills.
The workshop has been introducing women to outdoor activities beyond hunting and fishing through courses such as introduction to firearms, mountain bike basics, introduction to bowfishing, geocaching and stand up paddling, just to name a few.
“Women who may not have grown up around hunting, fishing or other outdoor activities are now interested in gaining more knowledge and experience,” said Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Woman Coordinator Heidi Rao. “BOW offers a non-threatening and comfortable environment to help break down barriers – both real and perceived. With the support of our sponsors, partners and long-time volunteers who teach classes and build confidence one participant at a time, BOW changes lives.”
During the past two decades, more than 6,500 women have participated in the workshop here in Texas.
BOW begins this Friday with courses and activities taking place throughout the day and evening activities dedicated to celebrating the past 20 years, around a campfire under the stars.
About 130 women will participate in the BOW workshop this weekend, choosing their top 4 choices from a total of 33 courses offered.
