STRAWN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold a public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 7 regarding the kinds of facilities and recreational uses being considered for Palo Pinto Mountains State Park. The meeting will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Opel Guest Chapel in Strawn.

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, which was purchased in 2011, encompasses more than 4,000 acres of former ranch land in the Cross Timbers region and straddles the Stephens and Palo Pinto County line. The park is not expected to be opened to the general public for at least another few years.

The purpose of the meeting is to present an overview of the facilities and recreational uses proposed for the park and receive comments that will guide future park development. Maps showing the facilities and recreational uses will be available for viewing at the meeting.

All interested citizens are invited to attend the public meeting at the chapel located at 321 Houston Ave. in Strawn.

Written comments from the public on the project must be received by Aug. 18 in person, by mail or by e-mail. Comments can be presented in person or sent to Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Superintendent John Ferguson, 1915 FM 2372, Strawn, TX 76475 or john.ferguson@tpwd.texas.gov or Chris Beckcom, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, TX 78744 or christopher.beckcom@tpwd.texas.gov.

For general questions about the park, please contact Ferguson by calling (254) 210-3015 or e-mailing: john.ferguson@tpwd.texas.gov.
