BASTROP– This Sunday at 1 p.m., Bastrop State Park will reopen its pool to the public following major renovations to repair significant leaks and upgrade mechanical equipment.

Built in 1937, the pool was last renovated 20 years ago. Project improvements included resurfacing of all three pools, installation of new plumbing, pumps, filters and chemical systems, new handrails and an ADA lift. These improvements will modernize the system and make it more efficient.

“The Bastrop State Park swimming pool serves an important role in health, safety and play for our local Bastrop community and a place to get away from the summer heat for the citizens of Texas,” said Jamie Creacy, Superintendent of Bastrop State Park. “We are pleased with the work that took place to make this emergency repair happen ahead of schedule and are looking forward to a great summer pool season.”

For the past six seasons, the pool has been managed by the Bastrop YMCA, which offers services including swim lessons, summer day camps and community events.

“The Bastrop YMCA is super excited to be able to serve the community this summer at the pool,” said Terry Moore, Bastrop YMCA Executive Director. “Summer recreation is just not complete without water, especially in Texas!”

Throughout the summer the YMCA will be offering aquatic programs at the Bastrop State Park pool. They include swim lessons for youth and adults, aqua fitness programs, party rentals and lap swimming. Private swim lessons are also available.

Prices and hours of operation for pool use can be found on the Bastrop State Park page on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website.
