Inks Lake State Park Has Partial Reopening After Park Road Fire

BURNET— Portions of Inks Lake State Park reopened to visitors today after a Sunday afternoon brush fire burned about 300 acres within the park.
The Park Road Fire began on a private property off County Road 116 adjacent to the park, jumped the road and encroached the park boundary. About 250 Inks Lake State Park visitors were evacuated for safety precautions.
No park facilities were harmed in the fire, but parts of the site in the southern trails area, which include Fisherman’s Upper and Lower Trail, Lake Trail, Woodland Trail, Connecting Trail, and Pecan Flatts Trail, the primitive camping area, and the youth group area, remain closed pending further assessments of damage to the natural resources.
The only structural damages sustained were to wooden signs, wooden benches and a deer blind.
