TPWD News Release — June 6, 2011
From June 1-Aug. 31, each person can plant a tree by visiting the Plant A Tree website and clicking on Texas. Tree donations are free; no contribution is required.
Odwalla is donating $100,000 worth of trees to be planted across the country through the program. Each state’s tree allotment is determined by the number of website visitors it gets. Trees in Texas will be used to support state park campground woodland restoration projects. Tree species will vary by region and will be planted in fall 2011 and early 2012.
Texas State Parks have already benefited from last year’s Plant A Tree program. In May, 88 live oak, chinquapin oak and pecan trees were planted at Garner State Park.
Since its inception in 2008, the Odwalla Plant a Tree program has donated $350,000 worth of trees nationwide. Odwalla is a juice and nutrition bar company known for its environmentally friendly focus.
