Well I love the sound of fast boats a racing

Lighting up the southern sky

Yeah I'm a hell-bent, 100 percent Texan till I die.

State of Texas
Office of the Governor

Texas is blessed with an abundance of beautiful waterways. From scenic rivers and lakes to the expanse of the Gulf of Mexico, these treasured bodies of water entice boating enthusiasts with open spaces and opportunities to spend time with friends and loved ones.

Though most Texans have a safe, enjoyable time on our lakes, accidents can happen at any time. All too often, in the ensuing chaos, people lose their lives or are seriously injured. We know that by practicing boating safety, including obtaining the proper licenses, wearing a life jacket, and avoiding reckless behavior, accidents resulting in serious injury or tragedy can often be avoided.

In light of the importance of boating safety education, an awareness campaign will be conducted during the month of May.

At this time, therefore, as summer approaches and more Texans begin to enjoy our great outdoors, I urge all boaters to ensure that they follow recommended boating standards. Let us do our best to avoid injury and tragedy, and enjoy the best of the Lone Star State and a summer of wholesome family fun.

Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim May 19-25, 2007, Safe Boating Week in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.

In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this the 8th day of May, 2007.

Rick Perry
Governor of Texas
