According to public opinion surveys in the Texas Parks and Wildlife for the 21st Century report, water, including both water quantity and quality, was the most important natural resource and environmental concern of Texans in 2001. In a survey of the general population, nearly half mentioned water resource-related concerns without any prompting. In a series of focus groups conducted in various locations around the state, concern over water resources was the only topic consistently mentioned as a major natural resource and environmental issue facing Texas.
