The Battleship TEXAS

Battleship TEXAS Tour

Self-guided tour of this mighty naval vessel will allow you a glimpse into the life of the men onboard the Battleship TEXAS during World War II and I. Climb 60' above the water to the flying bridge or down 20' below the water into the engine room. View the restored sleeping quarters and medical facilities, engine room, guns, anchors and impressive collection of awards and trophies. Guided tours given by the First Texas Volunteers are typically available on Saturdays. A "Battleship TEXASSelf-Guided Tour" brochure is available at the site headquarters. Regular admission.


The Battleship TEXAS

Sleep Over on the Battleship TEXAS

This Battleship TEXAS program provides an educational and recreational experience for organized youth groups (7-18 years of age). Sleep in the same quarters as the crew, participate in a guided tour into parts of the ship that are closed to the public and experience life as a sailor during World War II. Participate in a guided tour of the Battleship TEXAS into parts of the ship that are normally closed to the public. Call for additional information and specific dates. Fee


Monument Observation Floor

The Monument's observation floor is 489 feet above the Battleground with outstanding views of the city and the busy Houston Ship Channel and harbor. The observation floor can only be reached by elevator. Regular admission.


The San Jacinto Museum of History

The San Jacinto Museum of History is housed in the base of the San Jacinto Monument. The Museum is operated by the San Jacinto Museum of History Association, a private, non-profit, educational organization. The museum contains priceless artifacts and dioramas as well as a rare collection of 250,000 documents and 40,000 books chronicling more than 400 years of early Texas history. Free


Texas Forever! Multi-Image Presentation

Texas Forever! The Battle of San Jacinto - Experience the real story of the Battle of San Jacinto fought on the very grounds of this monument and site. The 35-minute production is shown in the Monument's 160-seat Jesse H. Jones Theater for Texas Studies. Regular admission


The San Jacinto Battleground

San Jacinto Battleground

Walk the Battleground and relive the famous battle for Texas Independence. Granite markers throughout the park designate locations of the Texian camps, the Mexican camps, the site of the advance by Texian forces and other strategic parts of the battle. Most markers can also be viewed from your vehicle. A "Battleground Walking Tour Guide" is available on the website or at the site headquarters. Boy Scouts can earn a badge for this activity. Call the site headquarters for details. Free.


The marsh trail and boardwalk

Marsh Restoration and Boardwalk

The 1210-foot long marsh trail and boardwalk allows visitors to view the native prairie, tidal marsh and bottomland forest as it appeared at the time of the historic 1836 Battle of San Jacinto. Read the Marsh Interpretive Trail Guide: "Habitats of the Upper Texas Coast".

Recreation Area

Picnic tables, grills and water faucets are available throughout the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. An enclosed picnic pavilion overlooking Buffalo Bayou is available by advance reservation. As part of the long range Master Plan, all existing facilities and recreation activities will be relocated away from the Battleground to a recreation zone within the site boundaries.

Fords of the 50's Car Show

Fords of the 50's Car Show

Enjoy a walk through the site and view hundreds of classic cars. Bring your picnic basket and stay for the daylong activities. Free to the viewing public. Vehicle registration fee for cars entered in the show. Annual event typically held in March.


San Jacinto Day reenactment

San Jacinto Day

Come travel back to the days of Sam Houston and Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto. Experience the past through this living history encampment and watch the reenactment of the battle for Texas freedom. Reenactors in period dress will demonstrate army camp life including weaponry, cooking and blacksmithing. After the Civil War, the defense of the Texas frontier was assigned to the famous "Buffalo Soldiers." Come shake hands with a real "Buffalo Soldier" during this event. Free to the viewing public. Annual event held in April.


The Monumental Bug Bash

Monumental Bug Bash

Volkswagen car show - lots of "Bugs." If you have an old Bug or just want to come to see the show, spend the day at the site. Free to the viewing public. Annual event typically held in May.


Pearl Harbor Day

Pearl Harbor Day

Participate in the remembrance of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, "the Day of Infamy." Join the Texas Commandry of the Naval Order of the U.S. and the staff and volunteers of the Battleship TEXAS in paying respect to those who sacrificed their lives in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Free to the viewing public. Regular admission applies for anyone wishing to board ship. Annual event held in December.

Yuletide TEXAS

The site headquarters is located in a 1930s house within the site. Headquarters is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
