Battleship TEXAS and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Sites

Student Programs

Educators need to schedule field trips in advance. Tour scheduling may be made up to a year in advance. We hope that you will allow your students to take a whole day to step back in time and experience life on the Battleship Texas and experience history as it was in the days of Sam Houston and Santa Anna. It will take two calls to schedule your trip: 1) tour the Battleship and 2) visit to the Museum, the Observation Floor of the Monument, attend the multi-media presentation "Texas Forever." No reservations are necessary to visit the Battleground.

The Field Trip Guidelines for the Battleship provides teachers with hints and rules for your fun, interactive day at the Battleship TEXAS State Historic Site.

Lesson Plans:

The Battleship has numerous programs for students of various ages in development. These programs will be designed for hands on activities and classroom discussion, for students with many different learning styles and abilities. A teacher's curriculum book for the Museum and Monument activities is available for purchase from the San Jacinto Monument gift shop.

Sleep Over on the Battleship - Students get to see what it would be like to be one of the troops during World War I and II. This activity is open to organized youth groups between the age of 7-18. Perform crew duties, learn about the early days of naval aviation, how radar was used, tour the ship and take your meals just like the sailors did more than 50 years ago. Time permitting, learn about nautical road knot tying, communications, and listen to naval yarns. A Battleground tour is included in this overnight experience.
