Animals of the Gulf Waters

Snook
Centropomus undecimalis

Snook are tropical fish that visit when Texas waters are warm enough. They spend time in both fresh and salt water, never far from seawater when they're upriver and never far from fresh water when they're in the Gulf.

The lateral line—that black stripe down a snook's sides—helps them sense fish and other objects in the water around them.
