Yellowtail snappers announce themselves with a broad, bright yellow stripe from nose to tail.
These snappers are rare in Texas, usually found only in deep water where they spawn. In more tropical waters, yellowtail snappers form schools near reefs, feeding on small fish, shrimp, crabs and squid.
