For the 2011-2012 school year, the State-Fish Art Contest is opening a new age division and new possibilities for national awards.

Mighty Minnows (grades K-3)

For the first time, students in kindergarten through third grade are invited to send in a drawing or painting of a state fish. The essay is not required for this age group. More information about Mighty Minnows

Fish Make You Smarter National Awards

Some people are good at art, and some are good with words. This year, one student in each age division (grades 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12) will be recognized for an outstanding essay. More about Fish Make You Smarter

Silent Invader Category and National Award

Invasive plants and animals threaten fish habitats across North America. Wildlife Forever has created a special entry category for students who want to learn more about this timely topic. Featured species for 2011-2012 are the largemouth bass (native) and the zebra mussel (invasive exotic.) Entries in the silent invader category should include both species in one piece of art work along with an essay explaining why the zebra mussel is a threat. More about the Silent Invader category

Other Awards

As in past years, Wildlife Forever will select one piece of art work for the Art of Conservation Award. This art will be featured on a conservation stamp to be sold through Wildlife Forever. Proceeds are used to fund conservation projects nationwide.

First-place winners from each state will be eligible to compete for the Seth Thomas Spradlin Best of Show Award, the People's Choice and the Smile Award.
