Abilene State Park

Nature

Abilene is in a semi-arid region of short prairie grass, brushland and wooded stream valleys of mesquite, juniper, cedar, native pecan, elm, live oaks, hackberry, Texas red oak, redbud and various other plants and wildflowers.

Perfect for wildlife observation and photography, the park is home to white-tailed deer, raccoons, armadillos, foxes, squirrels, cottontail rabbits, and a large variety of birds, including the Mississippi kite, roadrunner, cardinal, hummingbird and mockingbird, along with many others. Popular fish include bass, crappie, catfish and perch.
